
On Saturday, October 25, 2025, Phi Delta Theta alumni and interest group members gathered at the Maryland Alpha chapter house on College Avenue in College Park, Maryland to celebrate 95 years at the University of Maryland.
Nu Sigma Omicron, a local fraternity at the University of Maryland, was organized in January 1916 with nine undergraduates and two faculty as charter members. In November 1920, the group petitioned Phi Delta Theta for affiliation. Maryland Alpha was later installed on November 11, 1930. They have come to be known as the “Gentleman’s Fraternity.”
During the event, remarks were given by several alumni who helped coordinate the event, as well as the interest group president who gave an update on the groups plans to return to campus. In addition, two prominent alumni were recognized for their achievements and were inducted into the Maryland Alpha, Phi Delta Theta Hall of Fame:
Gary Williams, Maryland ’68, former head coach of the University of Maryland men’s basketball team is the third-winningest coach in ACC history after transforming the Maryland program into one of the nation’s most formidable, and building a Baltimore-Washington, DC area following that consistently resulted in packed arenas.
Adam Hasner, Maryland ’91, served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010, including two terms as House Majority Leader. He was appointed Florida Atlantic University’s eighth president in February 2025. Hasner earned a juris doctor from Florida State University and a bachelor’s degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland.
