HONORING FIRST RESPONDERS
Magnus Brekke, a member of Phi Delta Theta from the Ohio Beta Chapter at Ohio Wesleyan University, is organizing a memorial stair climb to commemorate and honor the firefighters who responded to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
“With the 25th anniversary coming up, I thought it would be a good time to give back to the community as it remembers those who lost their lives in such a tragic event,” Brekke said. “I really wanted to get the community involved with our campus and really show that OWU and the community can come together for something greater.”
The stair climb event, which will include 2,200 steps, the equivalent of the World Trade Center’s 110 floors climbed by New York City firefighters on 9/11, will take place at 9 a.m. on Sept. 12, 2026 in Selby Stadium.
“(It’s) in remembrance of what those first responders have done,” Brekke said. “Feeling just a fraction of their struggles to remember we are a part of something greater.”
